Log Cabin garden room in Tiverton

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We’ve just finished a lovely log cabin garden room in Tiverton in Mid Devon, for a young family. Dad is excited to have the outbuild he always wanted, Mum is chuffed to bits to see the old shed replaced, their son thinks it should be on the next Shed of the Year competition and the dog . . . . . . . well she clearly loves it too!!

This project is 3.3m wide and 2.4m deep. It’s got 70mm thick wall logs with 18mm tongue and groove floor boards. The only access to the property to the garden was through the house so the very though of a concrete base was a no go from the start. We installed our favoured option which is a timber subframe on plastic anti rot posts. This gives a perfectly flat base to construct from. Thanks to a couple of beautiful Spring days install progress was quick. We’ve insulted the floor and roof and as with all pent roof log cabins we installed a rubber membrane for the roof covering. This gets applied in one complete sheet so unlike roofing felt there are no overlaps and potential for water to ingress.

The clear weather is set to continue and our client is hopeful to be able to start to paint the building in Sadolin Superdec.

Devon Life Garden Building Feature

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

The Devon Life Garden Building Feature will be out tomorrow in the April addition of Devon Life magazine. We’ve taken the opportunity to feature in the feature so keep an eye open for our 1/4 page advert. We selected one of our bespoke log cabin buildings that is used as an artist studio to feature as the main image for the advert. Rather than lots of text and info overload we decided to keep it simple and remind people that log cabin kits can be used for –

  • Summerhouse
  • Hobby Studio
  • Home Office
  • Garden Room
  • Garden Shed
  • Workshop
  • Garage
  • Play Room

If you or you know someone in the Devon area thinking about a new garden building then we’d love to hear about your project ideas and see if we can be of support.

Christmas Trees – branching out

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

This year we decided to branch out (pun intended) and sell Christmas trees. We have recently taken on a small unit at Thorn Business Park, Salcombe Regis, Nr Sidmouth and decided to open the doors to people looking to by quality fresh cut Christmas trees. We had great fun working with our design guy to come up with a logo, signs and flyers and are over the moon with how well it has all been received. As a result all of our stock has been sold and we decided to spread a little festive good will and give the last tree to a worthwhile cause.

Devon based Lyme Bay Cabins recommend Sadolin

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

People often ask us what product to use on their cabin. Lyme Bay Cabins proactively recommend Sadolin. Our promotion of Sadolin Superdec through Twitter has lead to us recently working with Sadolin to produce some case study material on their Superdec product. Below is the article that will soon be out in trade press.

Sadolin Superdec puts colours in focus for Lyme Bay Cabins

Sadolin Superdec is helping put the creativity into colour at a Devon-based business providing garden cabins in the South West. Gary Davies launched Lyme Bay Cabins almost three years ago and Sadolin Superdec has become his product of choice ever since. The self-priming product ticks all the boxes for Lyme Bay Cabins, with benefits including up to eight years’ protection for exterior timber and a wide variety of colours. Gary says the complete package of wood protection, colour, technical advice and online product videos assures his customers that they are getting a superior product with expert support. He said: “I bought a cabin for my own garden seven years ago and found it impossible to source the level of quality and service I wanted. “When I decided to launch my own business selling garden cabins, I immediately started a massive research programme into the best cabins available and also the best products to use with them. “Sadolin Superdec offers up to eight years protection and the colour palette is fantastic. You can feel the quality of the product as soon as you start to apply it.” Gary sells and installs garden buildings across the South West and beyond, often coating the exterior of the cabin as part of the process. His bespoke show cabin is painted entirely in Sadolin Superdec shades. He added: “Some of my clients want to install a garden building themselves – to make it their own. I recommend Sadolin Superdec to all of them. “I feel the protection offered by the product is vital, but just as importantly, the choice of colour is exceptional. Whether clients want their garden building to blend into its surroundings or make a statement, there will be the perfect shade for them in the Sadolin Superdec range. “Having technical expertise at the end of the phone is also an extremely valuable bonus and the videos are fantastic. “I frequently show my customers one of the online videos where a rubber glove is dipped in the product and then manipulated to demonstrate its flexibility and durability. “To me that just shows Sadolin Superdec is the best product available and that is why I use it on all my cabins and recommend it to all my customers.” Sadolin Superdec offers a highly durable opaque finish which erodes naturally by weathering, ensuring the coating remains flexible and resists cracking, peeling and flaking. Find out more about Sadolin Superdec and its use by Lyme Bay Cabins in a video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pBxJLVpZMk&feature=youtu.be More details about Sadolin can be found in the series of videos in the established ‘This Is Sadolin’ series, available to view on the Sadolin website at www.sadolin.co.uk or on the Sadolin Woodcare YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/SadolinWoodcare  The details featuring the rubber glove, dipped in Sadolin Superdec to illustrate its durability, appears in episode 3 –  ‘The Colour Palette’ which can be seen at www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqeeGymVaFs Further information on Sadolin superior wood protection is available from the Customer Relations Team on 0844 7708 998 or email info@sadolin.co.uk

Shed of The Year

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We love watching George Clarke Amazing Spaces on Channel 4 and more recently Shed of The Year. We follow all of the guys behind the scenes of Amazing Spaces and we were thrilled to hear that Shed of The Year competition had been picked up by Plum pictures and commissioned by Channel 4 with Geirge Clarke heading up the show. Not many people will appreciate that Shed of The Year was founded by just one chap in Cardiff, called Andrew Wilcox or Uncle Wilco as he is more commonly known. (You can follow him on Twitter – @UncleWilco)

It’s fantastic to see what people create in their back gardens. There is something extra special about creating a personal retreat in your garden, often a tranquil space to work or play that you just couldn’t create in a room in the house. This years winner is no exception. Joel Bird from London won the competition with his eco shed. A rustic and charming bespoke garden room with an allotment on the roof! Joel is an artist and uses his garden roof as a studio to produce his work and ultimately make his money. Follow Joel on twitter – @MrJoelBird.

Joe’s winning shed is pictured on this blog but take a moment to check out the official Shed of The Year blog and Joel’s winning shed – http://www.shedblog.co.uk/2014/08/07/2014-shed-year-winner-revealed/

If you have a shed that you would like to enter then be sure to check out the websites and apply. See what Shed of the Year is all about – http://www.readersheds.co.uk/share.cfm

If you are dreaming up your very own shed of the year then we’d be delighted to offer our support and help. Remember that we can support you with all types of sheds, summer houses, cabins, etc.
